How to keep your Sub-Surface aerator clean and running well.

Sub-surface aeration is great because there isn’t much surface disturbance and they require a bit less maintenance that their floating friends. That being said, it is wise to think of your air compressor as being like a small car engine. Keep en eye on the oil, pump up your tyres and take it to the mechanic for the large services. An air compressor is similar and very easy to look after, it will continue running for you but does need some love now and again.

What do you need to to do keep your system healthy and problem free?

During the year:

  • Keep the air filter clear from build-up – how often you do this depends on how much stuff is getting trapped by the air filter. If the compressor is somewhere that is very dusty you may need to clear the filter more often.
Special cabinets and covers are available and always recommended to help you keep the compressor free from dust.
  • Check the diffusers for any organic material build-up or damage – as the compressor should be running continously, there should be little to no build-up over the diffusers but it is important to check.
  • Check the electrical cable for any damage.

Every few years:

  • Re-build kits – air compressors have wearing parts that need to be replaced over time in order to keep them humming away happily.
